Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I pay with cash on the bus or Dolmus?

No. Officially, cash is no longer accepted on city buses and Dolmus (minibuses). Payments are made exclusively via contactless methods such as debit cards, credit cards (Mastercard, Visa), or the Mugla Kentkart.

How much does a bus ride cost in Bodrum?

Public transport fares in Bodrum are calculated based on the distance traveled. The following table shows the current fares for the distance ranges you will travel (Rate on 29.06.2026 from Central Bank: 46.56 TL):

Distance / Route Student 60-65 / Teacher Adult Full (Kentkart) Credit/Debit Card Full

Last updated : 01.06.2026

* A standard full fare applies for payments made with bank/credit cards or two-ride cards. The currency conversion is based on official rates from the Central Bank (e-Devlet). For airport shuttles (Muttaş/Havaş), please check the dedicated page.

Can I pay with my credit card or smartphone?

Yes. Look for the contactless symbol on the card reader. You can tap your credit card, debit card, or use your smartphone (Apple Pay / Google Pay) directly when boarding. Just wait for the signal tone – and you're done!

What is the best way to pay if I don't have a Mugla Kentkart?

The most convenient way for tourists is to use their own bank and credit cards:

  • Bank - Credit Card: If your bank card has the contactless symbol (Visa/Mastercard), you can use it directly on the reader. This is the easiest way for tourists.
  • Help from fellow passengers: You can give the fare in cash to another passenger, and they can scan their card for you. This is common and accepted.
  • Payment to the driver: Many drivers will allow you to pay in cash if you are stuck, using their own card to scan you in.
Can I pay with Foreign Currency (Euro, Dollar, etc.)?

Officially, you should use a card. In practice, drivers may accept US Dollars or Euros if you are stuck, but this is at their discretion.

Other foreign currencies (like Pounds or Rubles) are generally not accepted. It is highly recommended to have a contactless card or some Turkish Lira for your journey.

Since drivers do not carry change in foreign currency, any accepted cash payments are usually rounded up (e.g., to $2.00 or €2.00).
What is the public transport system and can I use my Bank Card?

The public transport network in Bodrum is fully integrated with Contactless Bank - Credit Cards and the Mugla Kentkart. You don't need a special card; your regular contactless bank card or smartphone works on all city buses, Dolmus minibuses, and airport shuttles (MUTTAŞ).

Do I need to buy a Mugla Kentkart as a tourist?

No. Since purchasing a physical Kentkart can sometimes require extra steps, we recommend two easier options for tourists:

  • Contactless Bank Cards: Simply use your Visa, Mastercard, or smartphone. This is the fastest way and requires no registration.
  • Cash Option: If you're stuck, give the fare to the driver or a fellow passenger so they can scan their card for you.
Are there direct buses to Marmaris, Fethiye, or Dalaman?

No. There are usually no direct bus connections from Bodrum to Marmaris, Fethiye, or Dalaman.

The standard route goes through the center of Mugla (Menteşe). You first take a bus there and then transfer to your destination bus at the main Mugla bus station (Otogar).

Note: While a few direct trips might be available during the peak summer season, the connection via Mugla-Menteşe remains the only reliable daily option.
