Bodrum is located in the western corner of Mugla province. Most of the district is on a peninsula surrounded by the Aegean Sea. The district has an area of 557 km² and a coastline of 174 km including islets.

Bodrum is the largest district of Mugla in terms of population. With the increase in permanent settlement especially after the pandemic, the winter population stays above 400 thousand.
